Sometimes He Tops You Up

A double portion.

     a triple topping.

Sometimes HE “tops you up."

From up above

     sees your relation

And knows

     just what you need.

Not what you think:

     the meat & potatoes,

But mint chip ice cream!

Then, as if it

     weren’t quite enough

Piled high comes

     fudge, cherry, whipped topping!

HE “tops you up"

     with triple blessing;

Evidence of things unseen.

Just when you

     least expect it,

Faith begins to glean.

Then HE takes

     your half-full cup

And says, “I think

     I’ll ‘top you up!’"

This was a poem I wrote three days after my youngest son, Ryder, was born. The midwives were having me “top him up” with extra feedings. I was inspired by the British terminology and my postnatal hormonal bliss over this perfect little creature.

Sometimes God brings something into your life so unexpected, and yet just what you need! You think your life is full, but He says, “No, I want to top you up with an extra special blessing.” Ryder was not my husband’s and my plan, but he sure was God’s plan!

I don’t believe in coincidence. I believe in mistakes only in as much as God has mercy and can show himself even in those. What many call “happy accidents,” I believe are a divine string of events that only God himself could order.

As Christians, we walk with God daily in this thing called life. Admittedly, some days closer than others, but in each and every day God is there. He is there when we wake up each morning, whether bright-eyed and cheery or not. He is there to give us wisdom when we come across decisions both large and small. He is there to comfort, strengthen, encourage, show the way...Sometimes, He is there just to bless us!

To the degree we choose to tune in to His leading and watch for His cues, we have the privilege of yielding to His divine plan. The closer we get to that plan, the more we see the delicate threads He weaves together to make up the gorgeous tapestry of our lives.

So, God (the Almighty, King of Kings, Lord or Lords, Maker of Heaven and Earth) comes down and gets involved in the nitty gritty details of our lives.I hope to convey through this blog how God longs to show Himself continuously in the details of your every day life.

Why? To brag on how brilliant my faith is or how close to God I’ve become? Absolutely not. For the longer any of us knows the Lord, the more we see how little we truly know.

The reason comes in one word: testimony. For in our testimony we can encourage others. In our testimony we can bring light and love and peace to their situation. In our testimony we overcome!

God does not show favortism. If He has shown Himself strong in the details of my life, surely He desires to do the same in yours.

Be blessed, dear reader, be blessed. And remember….God is in the details!

Questions for Pondering:

Will you pause for a moment and look for Him in the details of your life today?
